CHANGES ON CONTENTS OF CALCIUM AND PHOSPHORUS IN THE HEALING OF EXTRACTION SOCKETS

Abstract
This experiment was performed to study the changes on contents of calcium and phosphorus in the healing of normal extraction sockets in cats.
The adult cats were anesthetized with nembutal, 35§·/§¸, body weight, by intraperitoneal injection and the upper canines were extracted. The experimental animals were divided into six groups as 1, 3, 5, 7, 14 and 28 days according to experimental duration, respectively.
After experimental period, the animals were sacrificed and the tissues in extraction sockets were separated from surrounding alveolar bone and digested in acid solution. The concentration of calcium was measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometry and phophorus concentration was determined by Fiske-SubbaRow method and the contents of calcium and phosphorus of tissues and Ca/P ratio were calculated.
Calcium content in the extraction sockets of upper jaw significantly increased at 7 days after extraction and increasing rate of calcium content was greatest at 28 days. The content of phosphorus gradually increased from 5 days after extraction and markedly increased at 28 days. The Ca/P ratio of tissue in the healing of extraction socket decreased at 3 and 5 days after extraction but at 28 days, increased to nearly normal Ca/P ratio of alveolar bone.
